born April 27, 1926 in Madison, SD died on March 29, 2014 in Indianapolis. She attended General Beadle State Teachers College and then completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of South Dakota where she majored in Sociology and Education. Following graduation she moved to Aberdeen, Washington and California where she taught high school. Eventually, Anna Ruth moved to Alaska where she received her Master’s degree in education at the University of Alaska. Her career soon turned to working for the military in a civil service position which took her around the world between 1952-1992. Over the years her jobs included positions in Germany, Japan, Korea, Illinois, Guam, New Mexico and Alaska. She helped place orphans in the United States and Paris after the Korean War. She was stationed in Alaska during the 1964 earthquake and was working in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. Anna Ruth was an adventure seeker who traveled to every continent except the Antarctic. She was well known for her sense of humor and the jokes she played on others. Beloved by all, she was a welcome addition to all family gatherings. She is survived by her brother John Lang, of Madison, SD, six nieces and one nephew: Jennifer (Garry) Clifton, Park City, UT, Elizabeth (Cam) Ellis, Indianapolis, IN, Matthew (Aida) Hahn, London, England, Christine (Steven) Pharr, Omaha, NE, Catherine (Mark) Miller, Sioux Falls, SD, Caroline (Roque) Mentele, Vancouver, WA, Colleen (Troy) Lenard, Camas, WA, and her brother-in-law, Richard Hahn, Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Grant Lang, her father, John Lang, Sr. and her two sisters: Kathleen Hahn and Margaret Hahn. She will be greatly missed. There will be a Mass of Christian burial at Marquette Manor, 8140 Township Line Road in the Marquette Chapel at 10:30 am on Friday, April 4, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anna Ruth’s name to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 217 N W Fourth St, Madison, SD 57042.
