Born in 1934, Ann lived her life to the fullest, blessed by her faith, family and friends. Pre-deceased by her parents, Thomas and Jane Mahaffey, brother James Mahaffey (Terry), son William Taggart Cline, Jr. and granddaughter Jennifer Cline, she is survived by her husband Dr. John P. McGrath, daughters Jane Link Ferguson (David) and Kelly Waltman (Jeffrey); sons Mark Cline (Colleen) and Tom Cline (Joni); step-sons John P. McGrath, Jr. (Nicole) and Ruari Rex McGrath (Theresa); sister, Katheryn (Kate) Esterline (Tom) and brother, Mark T. Mahaffey (Marianne). She was beloved by her grandchildren, Lindsay Cline Klein (Jeff), Ryan Cline (Kaitlan), Alexa Cline, Robin Link (Ravi Fernando), Katie Link, Lilly Waltman, Jack Waltman, Emily Cline, Matthew Cline, Caroline Cline, Catherine Cline, Jaclyn Cline, Sophia McGrath, Samuel McGrath, Liam McGrath, Aiden McGrath and Avery McGrath; by great-grandchildren Carter Klein, Hadley Klein, Avery Klein, Olivia Klein and Marina Fernando; dozens of nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Ann attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Tudor Hall, Pine Manor College, Briarcliff College, Purdue University, and Indiana University. She proudly earned her Master’s degree in Education with a minor in counseling and parlayed that education to further her passion to help people improve their lives by her career in the mental health field. A strong advocate of community service, Ann was a member of the Junior League of Indianapolis, YMCA Board, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Starting as a child, Ann loved to celebrate many special occasions with family and friends at Woodstock Club, she enjoyed decades of tennis and golf games, swimming with her children and grandchildren. As a lifetime member of the Dramatic Club, she participated in many of their events. Ann’s generous gifts of talent, time & treasure supported numerous charitable organizations. As a cradle Catholic, Ann lived her faith while participating as a community volunteer, belonging to the Alano Beach club, Carvel club, & Contemporary club.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Ann traveled the world, enjoying trips to Ireland, Africa, Italy, France, Australia, Chile & Argentina to name a few favorites. She had friends all over the world and truly never met a stranger.
Indoctrinated by her parents, annual family summer trips to Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota, & Cape Cod created lifetime memories for her, her brothers and sister, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a relationship builder with an uncanny ability to connect people to each other and form lifetime friendships between all generations.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday March 10th from 4:00 to 8:00pm in Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel with prayer service and rosary at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 11th at 11:00am in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following the funeral mass. Reception will follow the burial at Woodstock Club.
