Salvation Army Major Alice Marie Scott, 76, of Westfield, IN, was Promoted to Glory on Monday, April 5, 2021 at IU Health University Hospital. A true hero, she fought a courageous fight against cancer. Our Lord, whom she served with all of her heart her entire life, has welcomed her home.
She was born to Richard B. and Mary Mantle in 1944 in Lafayette, IN.
As a teenager, she started attending the Salvation Army West Lafayette with her mother Mary. At age 16, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Major Scott graduated in the class of 1964 from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN. She then attended Asbury College to further her knowledge of the Lord.
In 1965, Major Scott entered the Salvation Army College for Officers Training in Chicago. She was ordained and commissioned as a lieutenant in the Salvation Army "Witnesses to the Faith" session in 1967. Her first appointment as a Salvation Army officer was as an Assistant Corp officer at the Salvation Army Citadel Corps and Community Center in Muscatine, Iowa.
She married Major Robert Lee Scott on June 28, 1969, and the couple served The Salvation Army in Creston, Charles City, Clinton, Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa with additional appointment as Quad City coordinator.
Additional appointments followed at Milwaukee South Corps and Sheboygan, WI, here she opened a community family shelter; Des Moines, Iowa, as a city coordinator; Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, MI, as area coordinator, where she opened an adult day care; Munster, IN, serving Lake County; Fort Wayne, IN; and Saginaw, MI, as Tri-County coordinator for Midland and Bay City, MI, where she started a school for middle-aged children who were discharged.
After 29 years as an Officer, Major Scott was then appointed Director of The Salvation Army Kresge Center in Southfield, MI. In 1997, she was appointed to the position of League of Mercy Secretary and Medical Fellowship Secretary at the Indiana Divisional Headquarters. In 2004, she was appointed Capital Area Program Coordinator for the Western Michigan/Northern Indiana Division Headquarters.
On September 1, 2012, Major Scott entered honored retirement from The Salvation Army after faithfully serving for 45 years.
Her joy and passion was teaching bible school, working with the League of Mercy and singing.
She enjoyed summer vacations on Marco Island in Florida, where she and her husband attended The Salvation Army Naples Citadel Corps and Community Center.
Major Alice Marie Scott was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Major Robert Lee Scott. She is survived by son Jason Scott, daughter Amanda Scott, sister Debi Roudebush, brother Robert (Cheryl) Mantle and sister Darla Mantle.
Visitation for Alice will begin at 11:00 am and conclude at time of services at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 15th at The Salvation Army Eagle Creek, 4400 N High School Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46254.
