Obituary of Alberta L. Johnson
Alberta Lee Johnson (AJ) was introduced to the world on March 14th, 1934, along with her twin sister Roberta Lena Baker (RB) in Indianapolis, IN. She was born in union to Alberta & Tincle Baker. Alberta was the 3rd of six children, all of which preceded her in death – Imogene Wells, Tincle Baker, Roberta Baker, Mildred Wilson, and Eva Beatrice Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sr., lifelong partner Jerry Singleton, her son Keith Johnson Sr., two young children, Brenda and Michael, and her grandson Dione T. Brookes (Boopsie). Alberta was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system and Crispus Attucks High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member and devoted parishioner at Holy Angels Catholic Church and school. She was a faithful member of the Elites and loved attending her “club meetings”. Alberta was employed at RCA for 10 years with her twin sister and many friends. She then worked many years for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, starting at Holy Angels Catholic School working with children, whom she loved dearly. She also was housekeeper and cook to the late Father Clarence Waldon. Alberta then went to work at St. Johns The Evangelist Catholic Church for 21 years serving the late Father Thomas Murphy. After that, she worked and volunteered at Holy Angels Catholic School until she retired. Alberta Lee Johnson, affectionately known as “Grandmama”, lived a blessed, happy, long life of 88 years before she went home to the Lord on July 25th of 2022 at home, as she wished, with who she loved the most – her family. We are sure she was celebrated upon entry to the gates of heaven by her siblings, her son, her grandson, and other loved ones who she missed very much. In addition to being the strong willed, loving, person, Alberta was an outstanding mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren (which includes her siblings’ kids and nieces and nephews). Family was so important to her. She enjoyed watching her Pacers and Colts, and her 7 o’clock Wheel of Fortune. She also loved sitting on her porch, dancing, attending the Strawberry Festivals and Fish Fry’s at the church, and cooking her potato salads, casseroles, Strawberry Cupcakes, and Sakitumi Cakes. Alberta genuinely loved going to Holy Angels and doing arts and crafts with the kids. To know Alberta, was to love Alberta. Her and her twin sister kept a pretty and contagious smile on their faces, which always lit up the entire room. Alberta will forever be missed and never forgotten. Alberta leaves behind 5 children, Nannette Howard, Rhonda Johnson-Pitts (Albert), Eric Morris (Sallie), Donna Morris-Chapman (Herschel), Derek Morris (Shaamora), and her bonus daughter Elizabeth Hayden; her best-friend Paulette Andrews; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and people she loved and took in as her own.
