Elsie was born on May 8, 1934, in the R.M. of Cana, Saskatchewan, to Helen (Barsi) and George Gulash. She was the fourth-oldest of nine children.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Mitzi Cockreham of Portland, Oregon; her brother, Alfred Gulash of Regina, Saskatchewan; her friend and traveling companion, Lorne Krug of Regina, Saskatchewan; her brother-in-law Allen (Nola) Lueck of Victoria, B.C.; and June Rieger of Melville, Saskatchewan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie will also be missed by her many treasured friends, who brought much joy and richness to her life.
Elsie embraced life with enthusiasm and always said she had a wonderful life with no regrets. Elsie travelled to countless memorable destinations with her husband, Harold, during their 47 years together, spending many winters in Texas. Their other trips included Disneyland and Disney World, Mexico, the Philippines, Hong Kong, the Northwest Territories, and the Expos in 1967 and 1986. Later in life, she enjoyed bus tours with her friends to visit casinos, as well as short trips along Saskatchewan’s back roads to appreciate the beauty of nature or simply to witness a sunset. Elsie loved spending time with relatives and friends, and she always knew when someone needed her — she was quick to be by their side.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold Lueck; her parents, Helen and George Gulash; her siblings: Henry (Marion) Gulash, Eileen (Alfred) Almasi, Eleanor (Don) Moyle, Gladys (Don) Soderquist, Betty (Clarence) Stich and George Gulash; her brother-in-law, Dennis Cockreham; her sister-in-law, Rene Gulash; her in-laws, John and Irene Lueck and sister-in-law Lorraine; her special friend, Earl Chesney; and, sadly, a few nieces and nephews.
To all who knew Elsie, remember her with a smile for her wisdom, her wit, her love of a good joke, and her famous saying: “Don’t worry about me; I’m fine.” We all know now that she is fine, in the hands of her loved ones in heaven.
A private family service will take place at a later date, with an interment in the Indian Head Cemetery.
