Wilma Jean Mathison, 87, went to her eternal home on July 22, 2021. Wilma was born on May 28, 1934 in Harrison AR. She went to elementary school at Ridgeway and graduated from Harrison High. She was set up by a friend on a blind date a few years later with Melvin Mathison who would become the love of her life. Wilma and Melvin would be married in May of 1956. The newlyweds set up a home in Independence, MO where they would have 2 children and live the rest of their lives. Wilma worked for and retired from Boy Scouts of America. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Mathison, her parents Blanche Crawford of Harrison, AR and Carl Hopper of California, and numerous brothers and sisters from her large and loving family.
She leaves her daughter Ruth Berry and Mike of Independence, MO, her son Doug Mathison and Brenda of Harrison, AR, 5 grandchildren: Brandon Berry of Independence MO, Brett Berry of Mertzon TX, Courtney Mathison of Pierce City MO, Hanna White of Harrison AR and Joe (Berry) King of Crystal Lakes MO, 6 great grandchildren, a sister Roberta Phillips of Harrison AR and a brother Bill Hopper of California.
She leaves a number of nieces and nephews as well as an abundance of friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at the Noland Road Chapel on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 1- 2pm followed by memorial service at 2pm. Due to recent changes in COVID 19 protocol, masks and facial coverings are required on all indoor assemblies. The family requests that participants follow these requirements.
