home in Centerville, surrounded by her loving family, on April 28.
She was the beloved wife of Thomas J. Hazlett, her husband of 69
years.
Born in Waltham, Virginia was the daughter of Albert and Dorothy
(Hodge) Ravell. She was a graduate of Belmont High School and during
World War II she worked several months for Army Intelligence before
joining her husband, a Naval Officer, in California.
As the spouse of a career Foreign Service officer, “Ginny” enjoyed the
culture and lifestyle of their assignments in Latin America, Europe,
and Japan. In every location, she focused her efforts on improving
the lives of the less fortunate, especially children. She taught
first and second grade in Chile and Dominican Republic.
Notwithstanding these great years, her real loves were her children
and her church. Upon their retirement to Cape Cod, Virginia started
Loma Linda, a small business that imported collectibles from Portugal.
Always dedicated to helping others, she was a member of the Women’s
Guild at Our Lady of Victory Church, and other charitable
organizations such as Meals on Wheels. She will be remembered by all
for her inimitable smile.
In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her brother
Charles Ravell of Hampton, NH, and sister Gloria Hopkins of Danvers,
MA; two daughters, Sandra Waldmiller (Paul) of Houston, TX, and Susan
Hazlett of Centerville; daughter-in-law Katharine Kincaid;
grandchildren Paul, Jennifer, Geoffrey, Holly, Mychael, Jamie, Thomas
III (Joey), James (Chip), and Vanessa; and great-grandchildren Jessica
and Henry. Virginia was predeceased by her son, Thomas, Jr., and
sister Marjorie Peters.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to “Katie” and
“Kathleen” as well as to Hope Hospice for their devoted and loving
care.
