Susan graduated in 1959 from the Mary A. Burnham School (Stonleigh Burnham) in Northampton, MA and continued her education at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She grew up spending her summers on the Cape and later settled permanently in Hyannis with Peter, her husband of 57 “glorious” years.
Susan was an extremely active member in the Town of Barnstable and was as equally enthusiastic about the many clubs and organizations she participated in. Susan was also a volunteer and fundraiser for many causes she was passionate about. Susan was an award winning and accomplished quilter, known for her unique designs, intricate hand appliqués, and hand quilting style as well as her custom patterns. Sue produced and directed the first ever quilting TV show, “The Quilter’s Palette,” which aired on local access C3TV. Her talent as an artist and perfectionist were equally as impressive with her beaded jewelry skills and complex knitting projects.
When Sue wasn’t in her studio creating, she was with her family. She devoted her life to her family and was the proudest Nana.
Sue is survived by her husband as well as her son, Pete Campbell and his wife Lisa and their children Julianna and Paul of Springfield and her daughter, Peyton Willman and children Chase and Max of Barnstable. She is predeceased by her brother, Kenny “Poncho” Cummings.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Thursday, March 7th from 3-6 p.m. at the Hyannisport Golf Club located on 2 Irving Ave in Hyannis Port. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in Susan’s memory to the Barnstable High School Boy’s Ice Hockey Program at BHS Boys Hockey Boosters P.O. Box 248 Centerville, MA 02632.
