Center in Providence, RI after a brief illness.
Born in Bristol, CT April 29, 1930, Bob was the son of the late Robert V. and M. Josephine (Sweeney) Romans. Growing up in Bristol, he maintained a paper route while becoming a three sport athlete in high school, playing football, basketball, and baseball, and known for his speed, agility, and wit.
After graduating from Bristol High School, Bob enlisted in the air force where he served five
tours of duty, including the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Retiring from the military in 1974, Bob
then continued his career in public service as a postman for the East Sandwich post office where
he was known for his infectious, playful personality. His ability to make anyone smile with a
joke or one liner reminded everyone to not take life too seriously.
Bob enjoyed coaching little league in West Yarmouth for several years, continuing to coach after
his son Chris moved on to Babe Ruth. A favorite story he often shared was the time when Chris,
now a little league umpire, ejected his father from a game. Bob loved his family deeply,
attending his children’s and then grandchildren’s sporting and music events. He enjoyed the
simple pleasures in life, growing his own tomatoes, seeing his grandchildren, and making others
laugh. He was always ready to discuss UConn women’s basketball, the Boston Red Sox, or
whatever sport his grandchildren were playing.
In his last years, Bob spent time living with his son Chris and his family as well as his daughter
Lisa and her family before settling into Brookdale Assisted Living in Attleboro, MA. At
Brookdale Bob enjoyed doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, watching the birds, and sitting on
the patio.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Ann in 2010 and his two sisters Helen A. Romans in 2014 and
Betty J. Hintz in 2017. He is survived by a brother and sister in law Richard G. and Sandy
Romans of Bristol, CT; a brother in law Ken Hintz of Bristol, CT; his children Robert T. Romans
of Chelmsford; Lisa R. King and her husband Stephen of Clinton, CT; Christopher S. Romans
and his wife Mary of North Easton; Victorine M. Romans of Hyannis; and his two stepchildren
Michael R. Sawicki and his wife Jean of Mashpee and Robbin A. Passaro and her husband
Richard of Wallingford, CT. He leaves seven beloved grandchildren: Emily and Andrew Romans
of North Easton, Maggie King of Clinton, CT; Matthew Sawicki and his wife Sheila of
Kingston, Justin Sawicki of Mashpee, and Richard and Rachel Passaro of Wallingford, CT; along
