Lefteri was born in Constantinople, Turkey to Marco and Anastasia Karacalidis, on January 1, 1924. He is predeceased by his wife, Alexandra Karacalidis, and his sons-in-law George Makris and Theodore Mullin. He is survived by his three children, Sophia Makris of Tucson, AZ; Marco Karacalidis of Wareham, MA; and Mary Mullin of Centerville, MA; his grandchildren, Nicolas Makris of Tucson, AZ; Christopher Karacalidis and his wife, Kimberly, of Powder Springs, GA; John Karacalidis and his wife, Megan, of Walpole, MA; Anthony Makris and his wife, Kenzie, of Sandy, UT; Lucas Mullin of Fort Liberty, NC; Matthew Mullin and his wife, Sofia, of Washington, DC; and Jason Mullin of Falmouth, MA; as well as 10 great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Lefteri and Alexandra came to the United States in 1960 and resided in Hyannis, MA until 2004. Lefteri, also known as "Lefty", was a master mechanic. Upon arriving in Hyannis, he worked for Puritan Clothing as a tailor before going to work at Cape Cod Chrysler. After working there for many years, he owned and operated a Getty station and then an Exxon station, both on Barnstable Road in Hyannis. He loved working on and restoring older model cars. The skill he possessed as a mechanic could not be matched. His family often called him for car advice and even until recently he was still able to diagnose the problem.
As a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, he was a cantor, an AHEPA member and for many years volunteered at the church’s annual Greek Festival. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Alexandra, saltwater fishing and gardening. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Pavilion in Hyannis, Beacon Hospice and Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands who took such good care of Lefteri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, 68 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660, Attn: Sandra Anderson.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 18th from 10am-11am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville, MA with the funeral to follow at 11am. The Burial will follow at the Town of Sandwich Cemetery.
