Joseph Leo Sheehan

Born in Jamaica Plain and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (O’Neil) Sheehan. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School. Soon after graduation, he served in the US Air Force and was a proud Korean War era veteran. Shortly after they married in 1962, Joe and Diane made their home in Centerville and were long-time members of Our Lady of Victory Church.

Joe was a telephone lineman of 47 years and retired in 1999. After his retirement, he enjoyed walking the mall and discussing politics with his mall-walking friends, in particular, his friend Frank Hufnagel. He loved fishing, photography, a good cup of coffee and Steve and Sue’s Ice Cream. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Joe was also a 48-year friend of Bill W.

In addition to his wife Diane, he was predeceased by his sister Ann Curtin.  Joe leaves behind his three daughters, Lisa Sheehan of Plymouth, Laura France of Centerville, Tara Mannis and her husband, Brian of Fairhaven; his six grandchildren, Jené Longobardi, (and her husband Nicholas), and Jeselle France both of whom helped care for him until he passed, Thaddeus France and his fiancée, Racquel Cardoza, Joseph France, Theodore France, and Tedaro France; his twelve great-grandchildren as well as his niece and nephew. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Donna Pascucci, his brother-in-law, Carlton Carlson, and his close, childhood friend, Art Ryan.

A memorial service will be celebrated 11:30 am on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 West Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Burial with US Air Force military honors will follow the service at 2:00 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne where Joe will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Diane.
