Charlotte was born in Boston Mass in 1923, one of 4 children born of refugee parents (Sarkis and Flora (Munushian) Mouradian) who escaped the Armenian Genocide in 1915. Until 1959 she was a resident of Watertown, Mass and graduated from Watertown High School in 1942. She also lived in Southern California (South Pasadena and Temple City) for 30 years before moving to Hyannis where she has resided for the past 21 years.
At the age of 18 she left her parents’ home in Watertown and worked for the Office of Personnel Management in Washington DC. It was there that she married her husband William who was serving in the Army at the time. The couple returned to Watertown after the War. While in Watertown Charlotte was an active parishioner of St James Armenian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her extensive volunteer activities during that time were acknowledged in the Boston Globe’s “woman of the week” section in 1950’s. She was proud to be secretary to Manoog Young when the National Association of Armenian Studies and Research began its goal of establishment of a Chair of Armenian Studies at Harvard University.
Charlotte’s life changed dramatically as a result of her husband’s illness and subsequent hospitalization in the late 50’s. She moved to Southern California with her children and worked in several positions as a medical assistant and, after Graduating in Accounting from Pasadena City College, worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. Her social service continued in California as an active member of St Gregory Armenia Church in Pasadena and the American Legion Auxiliary. After retirement Charlotte returned to the East Coast and continued to be active in several service organizations here on Cape Cod. She especially enjoyed working as an AARP Tax Aid Volunteer with the Barnstable Senior Center for many years. During that time her opinions on certain tax issues in the state as they affected seniors was featured in an article in the business section of the Cape Cod Times.
Charlotte is survived by her three sons, William (Hyannis), David (Hyannis), and John (Albuquerque NM). In addition she has two granddaughters, Leslie Hargues and Melody Ballard (both from Albuquerque NM), as well as two great grandchildren Logan and Naomi. She is also survived by her sister Catherine (Kay) Mouradian of South Pasadena, Calif.
A visitation will be held on Monday July 9th at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St. Hyannis. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery where she will be placed with her husband who passed in 1990.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charlotte’s name to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 755 Attucks Lane, Hyannis in grateful appreciation of exceptional service and care Charlotte received.
