Jim had been known as Palmer through school and legally changed his name to Palmer when he entered the Army in 1953.
Jim is survived by his children; Randy Palmer (Nita) and Cynthia Hunt (Mark); Grandchildren; Jennifer Harp (Michael) and Harley Hunt; Great Granddaughters; Ashlyn Harp and Ainsley Harp
Jim had been married to Mary Hardin, Connie Myhand, and Judy Crawford.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from May 1953 - May 1955 in Field Radio Repair
Jim attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Huntsville with a major in Electrical Engineering.
He worked at the Chrysler Corporation, Space Division from April 1960 until August 1969. He was very involved in the design, testing and installation of telemetry and RF equipment. He was responsible for updating the hardware configuration for each flight based on launch schedules.
Jim started work with BellSouth in 1970 in Jackson, MS. He was in charge of the microwave routes being installed in the lower half of Mississippi. His next twenty-five years were spent on the various roads of Mississippi setting up the microwave routes for reliable long distance. Many service awards were bestowed upon him.
After his retirement, Jim spent his time fixing anything and everything for his family and friends and boating on the Gulf Coast, the Pearl River and the Tennessee River.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. A Celebration of Life Service will occur Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens.
