George Fredrick Wertz

George Fredrick Wertz, age 87, of Meridianville, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. George retired from Hayes International and SCI Systems as a Graphic Illustrator having worked on many NASA contracts with numerous accomplishments throughout his life. He was a loving father and grandfather. George served his country in the United States Army. George was a devoted long-time member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church and was highly active with Boy Scouts of America having served as Creek County Commissioner for many years. George was a long term member of the VFW, Eagles, American Legion. Sir Knight George was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered with the US Space and Rocket Center. George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Henrietta Wertz; his wife, Marva Rose Wertz; his son, Robert Bruce Wertz; his daughter, Theresa Ann Smith. George is survived by his children George E. Wertz (Sue), Richard Wertz (Rhonda), Patricia Bishop (Michael), Karen Wallace, and Barbara Duffey (Greg); Stepchildren David Clark (Lisa) and Kimberly Keleske (Jay). 11 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren.

Visitation for George will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. He will lie in state Monday, July 12, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Ave, Huntsville, AL 35816. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Ave, Huntsville, AL 35816. George will be Laid to Rest at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, FL on July 20, 2021 with Military Honors.
