Daniel Edward Moore of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on 8 Apr 2023 at the age of 84 after a life of dedication to his family, his country, and his wife Jacqueline Gunst Moore after almost 33 years of marriage.
Daniel was born in Flint, Michigan as the sixth and youngest child of Arthur C. Moore and Sarah Sutton on November 18, 1938. He spent his teenage years on a farm in Gladwin, Michigan following his mother's remarriage, where he learned the life ethics and values of hard work and dedication. Following his high school graduation in 1956, he served with the U.S. Navy for a year and then transitioned to a long 22-year career with the U.S. Army, serving in Italy, Korea and multiple tours at Ft. Bliss,Texas as a drill sergeant, weapon systems repairman, petroleum specialist and electronics trainer for Army weapon systems maintenance and repair.
Daniel retired from military service after 22 years, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and six Good Conduct Medals over the span of his service. He continued support to his nation by working at multiple defense contractor locations including Tonopah, Nevada and Marietta, Georgia before starting a Civil Service career of 20+ years at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. He provided key services for the Army as a training instructor in Electronics at the Army Missile Munitions Center and School New Systems Training Office and later worked in the Electrical Standards Lab performing equipment calibration.
He retired August 13, 2001 with a total of 44 years of combined military and civilian service to his country. Before and during his final retirement, Dan was an avid golfer, collector of owl figurines, bowler; and most recently served several terms as President and show chairman for the North Alabama Region chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America where he supported multiple club activities and made numerous good and lasting friends. He was considered by friends and family as a humorous guy, was a master at numerous things with his hands, and there was no electrical, mechanical or construction task that he could not achieve.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jacqueline Moore and sister-in-law Marian Hopper of Huntsville; wife's cousin and wife John and Ellen Griffin of New Market, and his beloved nephew David Thomas and wife Nancy currently of Boynton Beach, Florida, along with multiple other nieces and nephews.
