Rev. Christine Slaughter Stewart loved planting flowers to enjoy their beauty in full bloom. But it was actually her life that added fragrant beauty for everyone she encountered. Christine was born in Madison County, Alabama on March 24, 1936 to the Rev. Riley and SueDella Slaughter. She entered Heaven’s gates on Friday, August 11, 2017.
She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Lowes Chapel United Methodist Church, where she remained active until her health failed..Christine attended Council High School. She received her certificate in cooking and nursing from JF Drake Technical College. She was employed as a nurse at Big Spring Manor Nursing Home for over 25 years before retiring and going to work as a home health nurse.
Christine loved the Lord and studied the Word daily and answered the call to Ministry in her senior years. She followed a long line of preachers in the Slaughter family, including her father – Rev. Riley Slaughter, and sisters, Rev. Susie Ward and Rev. Stella Slaughter. Christine was a member of the Greater Huntsville Ministerial Fellowship. When she preached her first sermon at Lowes Chapel, several members of the fellowship came to support and encourage her along with other well-wishers, family and friends. Family ties were always important for Christine, and she loved entertaining family in her home. There were always plenty of jokes and lots of laughter when she shared funny stories or displayed her latest singing and dancing toy. She especially loved going to Birmingham to visit her two sons , her daughters-in-law and bonding with her grandchildren.
