Carolyn Zorn Mathews, 78, of Huntsville, AL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 23, 2020 after a long illness. Carolyn was born in Geneva County, AL on December 5, 1941, the daughter of Lincoln and Myrtle (Moseley) Zorn.
Carolyn graduated from Samson High School, Class of 1960, and went on to a career with the U.S. Civil Service that spanned forty years. During her career she worked for the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force at installations from Alabama to Virginia including Fort Rucker, Maxwell AFB, Dam Neck Naval Base, and Redstone Arsenal. Carolyn married Fred Mathews on December 2, 1988 and celebrated 31 years together. After retirement, Carolyn could often be seen in her charming hat and boots, the picture of a perfect Southern lady, heading out to work in her flower gardens. For those that knew and loved her, she is surely tending another garden now with flowers that will never wither or fade.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Eugene. She is survived by her husband, Fred Mathews; son Warren Rock and his wife, Beth, of Hueytown, AL; son Stacey Rock and his wife, Carla, of Madison, AL; son Jason Rock of Dallas, TX; stepson Eric Mathews of Newport News, VA; six grandchildren Andrew Rock, Rachel Rock, Samuel Rock, Thomas Rock, Elena Aracri, and Alex Aracri; sister Wanda Cannon; brothers Jack Zorn, Harold Zorn, and Jimmy Zorn, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
