Esther Elizabeth Bryant Bragg, age 98, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went home to be with her Maker on February 18, 2015. Esther led a very happy and active life with her family and friends; traveling to all parts of the world. She was a golden life member of The Woman’s Club of Huntington and a charter member of the Linden Garden Club, where she won blue ribbons and ‘best of show’ for her flower arrangements. She was a member of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary. She graduated from Huntington High School and the WV College of Business. She worked for several years for a real estate firm as Office Manager, resigning to become a full-time homemaker and mother. Fifth Avenue Baptist Church was an important influence on her spiritual life. She was baptized at the church. Some of the many church activities in which Esther was involved, were: being a deaconess, teaching Kindergarten Sunday school, singing in the Chancel choir as a member and a soloist, and taking part in the “Dynamic Adults” Sunday school, who always managed to have fun and go on crazy bus adventures. Esther met her future husband, Davis at the church and was married on October 11, 1940 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. From this marriage came Richard Alexander Bragg and Janice Elizabeth Bragg. Surviving are her 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Esther enjoyed the newspapers’ crypto quip, Jumble, and crossword puzzle, and activities at the Woodlands Retirement Center. She was an avid bridge and Tripoli player. She loved making jewelry and other crafts for her family and friends. Esther’s family would like to thank her doctors, nurses, aides, housekeepers, and anyone else who took such wonderful care of her at Woodlands. Also, in the final days, Hospice provided so much help to her and her family in relieving her pain and helping us understand the next step in her journey. God bless them! A funeral service will be held 12 noon Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, WV with the Reverend Hubert Harvey officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Entombment will follow beside her husband at Woodmere Abbey of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to Fifth Avenue Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
