Bernice “Neecie” Sullivan Powers, wife of the late Col. W.G. Powers and a lifelong resident of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House on June 16, 2015. She was born January 25, 1916. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lelia (Ray) and Fred Sullivan, her brother Raymond, who was killed in WWII at the Battle of the Bulge and her sister Katherine S. “Kitty” Davis. She is survived by Melody Powers Noland, Myles and Emily Noland of Lexington, Kentucky, Cathy Powers Petty and Bill Petty of Fairmont, West Virginia, Howard and Ann Powers of Aurora, Colorado, Debbie Gant of Aurora, Colorado, Susan McTheny of Williamsburg, Virginia and numerous close friends. She was a graduate of Huntington High School, attended Marshall University and worked for Gov. Cecil Underwood at the Capital. She was a lifelong member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Guyan Golf and Country Club and the Woman’s Club of Huntington. Graveside services will be held at Ridgelawn Memorial Gardens on Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev. Jack Lipphardt. Contributions may be made in her memory to Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church and Hospice of Huntington.
