Richard W. Whaley, 93 of Huntington passed away at 3:00pm on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at his residence. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran who served for 22 years and retired in 1970 as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked at Majestic Corporation for over 20 years and retired in 2001. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was a very family oriented man who enjoyed woodworking.
Richard was born on November 8, 1920 in Kirklin, Indiana, a son of James A. and Vania (Ryan) Whaley.
He was united in marriage to Mary E. McAdams on December 22, 1940 in Kirklin, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2014.
Survivors include a son: David Whaley of Fort Wayne; two daughters: Starlynn Schell of Huntington; Cindy (Scot) Shaffer of Berne; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Virginia Robbins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 1:00 – 2:00pm at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery Chapel, 11201 S. Marion Road, Marion, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Gardens of Memory Chapel with Scot Shaffer officiating.
Interment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made out to Huntington Humane Shelter in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
