Larry W. Bowers, age 79, of Huntington, Indiana passed away on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2024 at the Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Larry was a 1963 graduate of Union Township High School where he was shot-put champion of Huntington County. He served his country in the U.S. Army after high school, spending time in Germany. He worked for Slater Steels in Fort Wayne IN for 39 years. Larry had attended and served in the Nazarene Church in Huntington for over 50 years. There he had served on the board, drove the church bus, and was a Sunday school teacher. Larry attended the Mission House Church up until his death. He acquired a pastors license, and for the past 15 years performed an occasional marriage or funeral service and baptisms for people he knew. He had a passion for ministering and serving the Lord. Larry loved the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with his grandkids. Anyone who knew Larry, knows that he was a great lover of people. No matter if you were a friend, family member, or a complete stranger, Larry would greet you smiling with love. Many people trusted in him and went to him for Godly wisdom and counsel. Larry was born on March 10, 1945 in Huntington, a son of the late Walter and Anna (DeHaven) Bowers. He was united in marriage to Ann Willour on December 19, 1964 in Huntington. Ann preceded him in death on September 15, 2015. He later married Connie Helms on April 9, 2016 in Huntington. Connie survives. Additional survivors include two sons: Carey Bowers of South Whitley, Kyle Bowers of Huntington; two daughters: Christy (Gerald) Carpenter of Huntington, Karmen (Kevin) Olinger of Huntington; a sister: Marilyn (Greg) Robrock of Huntington; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 following visitation at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery in Huntington County at a later date.
