June 15, 1983 – December 8, 2024
Roderick Vernal Whyte was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on June 15, 1983, to Carol A. Whyte and Phillip B. Whyte. He lived to be 41 years old. He is survived by his son, Roman Whyte; his daughter, Paris Whyte (Brittany Sonier, Mother of his children); his mother, Carol A. Whyte; his father, Phillip B. Whyte; and his younger sister, Meisha Whyte.
Roderick spent his early childhood in Kingston, Jamaica, until the age of three, when he moved to the United States and settled in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Westfield High School, where he began to nurture his passion for art and music. Roderick spent much of his free time drawing and creating music, often collaborating with close friends. His love for the arts inspired him to pursue a degree in
Recording Arts, graduating from Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.
After completing his education, Roderick returned to Houston, where he dedicated countless hours to establishing himself as a photographer, event host, and the creator of a website called Trillevents. His work reflected his deep passion for creativity and his desire to bring people together.
Despite his achievements, Roderick faced significant challenges with depression and anxiety. To cope with these internal struggles, he turned to self-medication and endured a constant battle with addiction and rehabilitation. Through his ups and downs, Roderick found moments of peace in fishing, cooking, and weight training—hobbies that brought him comfort during difficult times.
Roderick’s journey was marked by resilience and determination. Though he faced setbacks, he continually worked to rebuild his life and focus on his rehabilitation. Tragically, Roderick passed away on
December 8th, 2024, due to an overdose. While his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit is now free from the anguish of his struggles.
A memorial service to celebrate Roderick’s life will be held on January 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery 21723 Aldine Westfield Road Humble, Texas 77338.
The Whyte family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Roderick in any way they could. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child and a community to support an adult. Your kindness and compassion meant the world to him and to his family.
