He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October of 1963 and served for 2 years. He was a man of many talents, but he was known best for his love of people. He knew someone everywhere he went and could sell you anything. He worked as a salesman, then he moved to pest control at Orkin (otherwise known as the bugman by his grandchildren). He was a valet at RedStone Golf Course and lastly, a greeter at TopGolf. He was a longtime member at Founders Baptist Church with his wife Jo Etta (Jodie), where he also greeted everyone as they walked in the doors. They sat in the same pew for years, and knew everyone around them. He was a grandfather to those who didn’t have one and a friend to everyone he met.
His hobbies were also focused on being able to spend time with his friends and family. He loved to watch golf and basketball (always loved March Madness), and enjoyed swimming and dancing when he had the opportunity. Many weekends were spent with his grandchildren playing games around the kitchen table late into the night and getting up early for church on Sunday mornings. He hosted many family birthday parties and holidays at his house where he would grill hamburgers and make fresh homemade vanilla ice cream, followed by long afternoons at the pool.
John was preceded in rest by his parents: Norma Ann and JD, his wife Jo Etta, his sister Linda and her husband Paul, and his daugher-in-law Tina.
He is survived by his sons Johnny Dwayne Sr., with his wife Shelley, and John Stanley Jr. His grandchildren: Marsha Jean and her husband Clay, Bo (Johnny Dwayne Jr.) and his wife Alisha, Amber Kay, Amanda Jo, and John Michael. He also had nine great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
