"BELOVED, LET US LOVE ONE ANOTHER: FOR LOVE IS OF GOD; AND EVERYONE THAT LOVETH IS BORN OF GOD, AND KNOWETH GOD." -1 JOHN 4:7
Ms. Darlene O. Lewis was born on February 28, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to Wilson and Gladys Lewis. She graduated from Charlton Pollard High School of Beaumont and then went on to attend Lamar University.
She later moved to Houston, TX with Donald M. Jones and during this union she had her first daughter Donna R. East. Ten years later she met Joe B. Wilbert and during this union she welcomed a second daughter Annie P. Griffin. She devoted her life to working to provide for her daughters and any others who needed her. She could either be found at work, home, or at church where she was able to gain a number of lifetime friends (now family). Darlene was a faithful usher at Salem Baptist Church and then Independent Heights under the leadership of Pastor Jerome C. Nickerson. After decades of working as a cook at BBQ Inn restaurant and various other jobs she retired in 2014 to help with her granddaughter Trinity. Her greatest joys in life included her daughters, grandchildren, friends, pets (Ginger & Coco), gardening, reading the entire Sunday paper, attending church, listening to music, and home ownership. She took great pride in being independent and living a peaceful life. She was also a devoted fan of the Texans and the Rockets even when they struggled.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father Wilson, mother Gladys, three brothers Ross, Milton, and Henry, grandchildren DeVonte' East, Nevaeh Griffin, and then most recently her last surviving sibling Zelma Spikes. Darlene leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Donna and Annie (Jerome), granddaughters Trinity & Aria, godchildren: Bernard D. Russett, Dexter Siner, Jr., Brittany & Brianna Dorron, nephews Ronald & Steve Spikes, nieces Debra & Tiffany Spikes, a host of church family members/friends and her beloved dogs.
