John Morgan Kavanagh passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24th, in his 80th year surrounded by his girls. John leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Judy (nee Allen). John was the proud father of Lynne (Lee Rattray) and Leanne (Scott Endicott) and loving grandfather to Sheamus, Grace, Kathan and Georgia.
John was born and raised on the “farm” in Vinton, Quebec. He is survived by his loyal brother and lifelong friend Pat (Carol), sister-in law Jeanne Scully (late Clair) and brother-in-law John Allen (Jeannette) as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and dear friends. He was the son of the late Edward and Agnes Kavanagh and son-in-law of the late Vincent and Adeline Allen.
John was a successful and well-respected educator with the Ottawa Catholic School Board (St. Augustine School) for more than 30 years. He loved his family, had a strong faith, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors and loved to travel (a favourite being Ireland).
A visitation will occur on Thursday, August 29th, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Evangelist Church on 160 rue Principale, Gatineau, Quebec, followed by a funeral mass at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at The British. An interment will take place at a later date at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Vinton.
John's family would like to thank the staff of the 6th floor Palliative Care Unit at the Hull Hospital. If interested, donations can be made to the Société Alzheimer Outaouais.
