Terry "Butch" Wagner passed away at the age of 65 after a short fight with brain cancer. He was born in Burlington, Iowa to parents Robert and Deloris "Dee" Wagner. Moved to Oakdale, CA., where he graduated from Oakdale High School, class of 1965. He grew up working in his parents bakeries in Oakdale and Modesto at a young age and later managed Save Mart Bakeries in Modesto. In 1973, he and his wife Sherry bought Cottage Bakery in Coalinga, CA., and sold it 5 years later, moving back to Modesto in 1978. They built Pastry Express in Modesto and sold it after 3 years and moved to Turlock, CA., in 1981, where they built Olde Tyme Pastries and with their children, still own the family run bakery after 31 years. Terry and Sherry were also the former owners of Village Baking Company in Modesto. He was certified as the 42nd Master Baker (CMB) in 1992, and that same year, Olde Time Pastries was named "Best in the Nation" out of over 50,000 retail bakeries. He loved baking and creating new pastries, which he passed down to his youngest son, Michael. He was a board member of the Retail Bakers of America for 10 years and later served as President of the RBA. He was a past President of the Central Valley Bakers, a member of Kettledrum Antique Club and National Golden Glow of Christmas Past. In 2011, Terry and Sherry moved to Manteca, CA., to semi-retire and enjoy life!
He leaves his loving wife and best friend of over 40 years, Sherry of Manteca; sons, David (Valerie) Wagner of Modesto, Jim (Guilie) Wagner of Turlock, and Michael Wagner of Turlock; daughters, Debbie (Steve) Vierhus of Coalinga and Cheryl Fondse of Ripon, CA.; sister Sandy (Ed) Doughtery of Coulterville, CA.; brother Gary (Christa) Wagner of Campbell, CA.; uncle Gilbert (Darlene) Wagner of Iowa. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Kristin (Christian) Safian, Holly (Rob) Amson, Stefanie Vierhus, Jacob Wagner, Everett Wagner, Laiken Wagner, Kelsey Wagner, Eddie Wagner, Ivy Wagner and his precious Great Granddaughter, Madelynn Mia Amson and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, August 13th at 10:00 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home (Riverside Chapel), 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA. Lakewood Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
