Gary and his brother Russell grew up with their parents in the small town of Omega, Minnesota. As a young boy he enjoyed swimming, riding his bike, working his newspaper route, and tending to his pigeons. When he was in the 10th grade his family moved to California where he finished school while working at his uncle's gas station. After graduation he moved to Oakland and began work at Standard Stations. Gary worked as the head maintenance mechanic for Mother's Cookies in Oakland for 15 years. In 1964 Gary met and married the love of his life Drenda. The couple and their family lived in Hayward until 1977. They spent two years in Livermore before being drawn to the central valley, settling in Modesto in 1979. Inspired and encouraged by his uncle Carroll Griffith of A & G Sales (based in Los Angeles) Gary made the decision to go into business for himself. This is when Gary's Fencing and Wire Supplies was established. Gary's wife and their children have worked for the company, making it a true family affair.
Gary loved to be outdoors and ranching with his dogs, horses, cows and pigeons. He enjoyed football, boating, fishing, camping, vintage cars, antiques & collectables, and playing billiards. He loved to watch his kids play various sports throughout the years and later in life watching his grandchildren play. He was active in his community as well, sponsoring Salida Little League, volunteering as a coach and allowing his cars to be driven by friends in the Salida Parade. During the parade Gary would be seen behind the wheel of his beloved "jalopy" and a '59 vette. Gary enjoyed country music and his favorite artist was George Strait. In 2006, Gary and Drenda bought a home in Jamestown and would travel back and forth from the foothills to the valley. He will be missed by countless family and friends.
