Dorothy Mae Hawkins, passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Hattie Jackson and Willie Hawkins. She was born in Newellton Louisiana on May 25, 1933.
Dorothy was a dedicated and driven woman, always trying to better herself and her community. In 1968, Dorothy went back to school to earn her GED, in 1991 she was awarded her cosmetology license and opened her own hair salon. Dorothy was active in her community, always fighting for others around her. In 1994, she received a letter from President Bill Clinton acknowledging her concerns about the healthcare system.
What brought the most pleasure to her was spending time with family and friends. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved having her family around and could be found loving on them in the form of hot cooked meals. Dorothy loved to recall stories about the good times in her life and shared them with those she loved. She was so very kind and left an impression on every person she met. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Hattie Hawkins and Willie Hawkins; siblings Harry Chatman, Jesee (Rapjack) Hawkins, David Earl Hawkins, Hattie (Lulu) Hawkins, and children Evelyn C. Hawkins, James Hunter Jr., and Rosaline Hunter.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory siblings Willie Hawkins Jr., Charles Hawkins, and Raymond (Ray Ray) Hawkins; and children Carolyn Taylor, Wanda Jones and Seyron Hunter, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 12:00 PM, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California. A graveside service will occur Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California.
