Born in Oakland to Harvey and Asta Scott (Berthelsen). Don attended UC Berkeley where he met his wife Nora (Norverta Ochoa). He graduated from San Francisco State University.
Don and Nora were married in 1964 and celebrated their 58th anniversary in June, 2022.
They lived in the Bay Area until they moved to Modesto in 1976. He started his own business, Scott Delivery Service and retired after 23 years.
They were happy in their marriage. They had two children. They took family camping trips and had family gatherings. Family was always important. Don was so proud of his children and grandchildren. They live close by so he was able to spend time with them. Don and Nora had similar interests. They watched college football together, spent time with friends, went to shows at the Gallo Center and attended social events in Modesto. They enjoyed travel to many places in the U.S., Denmark and Spain and took cruises to Alaska and South and Central America. It was a full and wonderful life.
When his children started playing soccer, he became active in the Modesto Youth Soccer Association. From 1980 to 2017, he coached, refereed, and joined the governing organization even serving as Commissioner for two terms. He loved interacting with the players and the players liked him. He refereed his last game when he was 73 years old.
Don’s next community involvement was joining the Board of Directors of the McHenry Museum and Historical Society. He served on the board from 2008-2022. He served as President and Vice President numerous times. Most recently, he was Vice President from 2019-2021 and Interim President from 1/1/2022 to 5/28/2022.
Don was a very social, friendly person. If you met him, you surely had a conversation with him and enjoyed knowing him. He was genuinely a compassionate person. He will be greatly missed by all.
Don is survived by his wife, Nora Scott (Norverta Ochoa), brother, Richard (Joan), daughter, Janice (Calvin), son Kenneth (Shonna), Granddaughters Makenzie Salyer, Abigail Scott, Savannah Carabello, Grandsons William Curtin and Bryson Curtin, and Sister-in-law Carol Harper (Ochoa).
His service will be held on Tuesday, August 9 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA 95326.
