Deena Lee (Parsons) Carr passed away peacefully Saturday, September 14, 2019 with her three children by her side at the age of 73. Born on March 8, 1946 in Modesto, California to the late William and Betty (Peerman) Parsons, and sister of Daryl (Linda) Parsons. She is preceded in death by her late husband of 44 years, Thomas Carr. Deena leaves behind to cherish her memory, son Todd D. Carraway of Modesto, CA: daughters Traci L (Phillip) Cahill of Richfield, UT, and Tisha R (Kevin) Moon of Modesto, CA; 8 grandchildren Marysa (Rob) Owings, Zackary (Majesta) Carraway, Travis Breshears, Mariah Carraway, Hunter Cahill, Shayne Cahill, Dalton Moon, and Danika Moon; and 6 great-grandchildren Jorden Owings, Bryler Carraway, Hayden Carraway, Luke Breshears, Audrey Owings, Elizabeth Carraway. At the age of 3 her parents William and Betty purchased the land on River Road in Modesto, and began their farming empire which later became a family propane business. As a child she spent many days farming with her family, picking apricots, making jam, and drying apricots. Deena grew to become an avid homemaker who learned to sew from her father, William. Deena was a graduate of Modesto High School, she continued her education in the area of accounting at Modesto Junior College where she received her associates degree. Deena was an involved parent in her children’s education and served on the PTA, was a classroom volunteer, and served in many different roles at Tuolumne Elementary. Her biggest influence on the community was that of a Girl Scout Leader for 20+ years. With her friend and co-leader Jane Gift, Deena influenced and fostered young girls by attending camps and community events. The service projects her and the girl scouts completed in Ceres and Modesto was rooted in the girl scout philosophy of “On my honor I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout law.” Deena was an example leader who instilled in her scouts what it means to be a strong independent woman. In her later years she was also an involved grandparent and volunteered in the classes, donated supplies, and attend school events. She also spent many days volunteering, doing projects, and helping her daughter Tisha in Mrs. Moon’s classroom at Apricot Valley Elementary. Deena always looked forward to her weekly time spent with Ellen, and their adventures they had. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, September 26th from 4pm-8pm at Lakewood Memorial; Heritage Chapel. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, September 27th at 10:00am, at Lakewood Memorial Park.
