Young Soon Lee, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the age of 77. She was born on October 29, 1936 in Seoul, South Korea. She was the youngest of 8 siblings. After graduating high school at Kyung-Gi Girls High School, Young immigrated to the United States via Seattle, WA on April 8, 1957. That fall, she attended Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.
Young married H.K. Lee on May 29, 1959 and lived in Chicago, IL for three years before moving to Texas. Young was a microbiologist serving Houston's hospitals, finally retiring in 1998 with the West Houston Medical Center. She was a classical music enthusiast and enjoyed listening to classical music, playing the piano and singing. Young touched many lives with her kindness, strong-will and youthful, good spirit, which included a soft spot for desserts and chocolate.
She is survived by her husband H.K. Lee of Houston, TX; daughters Mary Ann Shin and husband Ki-Yong of Greenville, SC; Grace Lee Piacenti and husband Rick of Houston, TX and Jennifer Lee Manguino and husband Connors of New York, NY; grandchildren Phillip Shin and wife Jada of Spartanburg, SC; Christina DeYoung and husband Blake of Spartanburg, SC; Caroline Shin and Christopher Shin. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who took joy in spending time with her family. She will be missed greatly.
Young's final resting place will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, February 21st from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The memorial/burial service will be held Saturday, February 22nd, at 10:00 am with burial following.
Family and friends are invited to lunch following the service. Restaurant information will be provided at the chapel.
