Born on January 12, 1926 in Nanjing, China, Dr. Hu was the second eldest of five brothers. He received an undergraduate degree from Shanghai Jiao Tung University, a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University, and a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He had a long career as a respected chemical engineer at a variety of petrochemical companies around the Clear Lake and Alvin areas. Dr. Hu was a perpetually curious lover of reading, and enjoyed traveling the world, especially visiting his native China.
He married his dearly beloved wife Le-Fan Huang on November 5, 1966 in Buffalo, New York. Although sadly, Le-Fan passed on March 20, 1999, Dr. Hu often noted that the 30 plus years of their marriage were the best of his life, and we are comforted to know that they are now reunited. Dr. Hu is survived by his daughter Grace, son-in-law Dennis, son Andy, daughter-in-law Robin, and grandchildren Arthur and Audrey, and Olivia.
