On Friday, June 28, 2024, God called His angel, Yadira Elizabeth Vázquez, home. On August 1, 1987, Yadira was born to fill with love the lives of her parents Federico and Maria Vázquez. Her siblings include Fred, Sonia, Adriana, Jorge and Sandra which for her, were number 6,5,4,3 and 1.
Doctors diagnosed her with cerebral palsy saying she was not going to live a normal life, however she lived her best life and was able to see, hear and walk. She never said a word but they weren’t even necessary. Everyone knew exactly what she was saying or wanted without the need of words. God had plans for Yadira! Blessing her with strength and health to defy the medical odds, we were blessed with an angel that had a constant smile, concern for others, a love for Winnie the Pooh and all things purple for over 36 years.
Yadira was born in Houston, TX and was raised in the Denver Harbor neighborhood. She attended Dogan Elementary, McReynolds Middle School and graduated from Wheatley High School. She attended the Bello Amanecer Day Hab and Activity Center for adults with special needs. Yadira would light up any room she walked into and was an amazing social butterfly. She loved being in the middle of everything! From hitting a piñata, to playing games at a baby or bridal shower, to catching a bouquet at a wedding! She was in it to win it! Due to her need to meet and greet everyone, she was often given the job of making sure that guests signed a book, filled out a message card, had something to eat or drink. She was always the hostess with the mostess!!
Yadira was all about family! She helped to raise 13 nieces and nephews…never shy to dish out discipline when necessary. Everyone received a drawing of her hand on a piece of paper with “Happy Birthday”, her signature and the date written in her own special handwriting, with $3 - $5 as a gift; typically folded for her precious gift! For her birthday, she was happy to receive word searches, pens and purses that were some of her favorite items to collect.
Yadira Elizabeth Vazquez returned home where she was welcomed by her mother Maria, her older brother Jorgito and her niece Maritza Vázquez. This means heaven just got a little louder. Yadira’s contagious smile, laugh and mischievous personality will be forever missed. Family and friends are asked to join us and wear white as we honor and celebrate the life of Yadira Elizabeth Vázquez.
A visitation for Yadira will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
