He is survived by his beloved son, Johnathan and beloved step son, Quentin and their mother Diane Edmiston; his mother, Nelda; brother, Michael and wife Shannon; sister, Andrea and husband Eric van Hoven; four nieces and nephews; and his dear other mother, Marilyn Parker.
The family will honor his request to spread his ashes over the western slopes of Mount Foraker in the Alaska Range, not far from Mount Denali as he eloquently wrote, “I lived, worked and ultimately found myself at real peace in the peaks and valleys west of Mount Foraker. It is where I was the happiest, where I truly belong and where I want to start my new journey. As the snow melts, so shall I travel down those peaks and valleys into the Kuskokwim basin and on to the Sea of Alaska. From there the currents flow south to the banks off Mexico and to some of my favorite fishing grounds. It should only take about three hundred years!”
At a later date, the family will gather for a private memorial service.
For those desiring, memorials can be sent in Winston’s memory to the Marion School Library, 205 Gopher Lane, Marion, Montana, 59925; or the Marion Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 939, Marion, Montana, 59925, www.marionruralfiredept.org.
