Willie Alton Murray, Jr., born on December 17, 1945, to Willie Alton Murray, Sr., and Maggie Lloyd Murray in Crockett, Tx. He transitioned from Earth to Eternity on October 21, 2024.
Willie or "Papa", as he was affectionately known was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Willie graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School in 1964, where he played basketball and baseball. He later attended Texas Southern University, graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, which paved the way for a successful career.
On September 13, 1969, he married Linda Faye Wheeler, in Houston, Tx. to this union 2 sons were born.
He proudly served in the United States Army, while being station in Korea. Willie dedicated himself to the service of his country with honor and commitment after 2 years of service he received Honorable Discharge.
Following his military service, Willie embarked on a noteworthy career at Hughes Tool Oil Company, where he worked for over 30 years. His roles took him across various locations including Houston, Monahans in Texas, and Farmington, New Mexico, showcasing his adaptability and dedication to his profession.
Willie was a devout member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he embraced his community and faith with open arms. Papa's personal hobbies included fishing, cooking, sharing wisdom with his sons and traveling extensively to support his grandchildren in their various sporting events, a testament to his loving and supportive nature.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Maggie Murray; brothers, Albert, Hebert, Linzell, and Odell Murray, Sr; and sister, Dorothy Murray Lenton.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Murray; sons, Bryant Keith Murray and Justin Wheeler Murray (Jennisha) both of Houston, Tx; brother, Elmer (Shirley) of Crockett, Tx; sister, Ethel Murray of Houston, Tx; and grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jadyn, Janae, and Jalen. Willie Murray, Jr.'s life was a remarkable journey of family, service, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
