William (Pete) Lawrence Geldmeier Jr., a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 14, 2022, after a lengthy illness. A native Texan, Pete was born on July 26, 1939, to the late Mr. William Geldmeier Sr. and Mrs. Enid David Geldmeier in Mart, Texas. He grew up in the small town of Riesel, Texas where he played football, enjoyed spending time with friends, and assisted his family with their farm.
Pete graduated from Riesel High School at the young age of 16. After high school, he applied to Baylor University and received an accounting scholarship. He worked his way through college doing various jobs such as assisting people with their accounting books to help pay for his tuition. He excelled in accounting at Baylor, and, at the age of 20, Pete graduated first in his class with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Shortly after he graduated, Pete took and passed the CPA Exam on his first try. On June 16, 1963, Pete married his Riesel High School sweetheart, Sharron, and together, they moved to Houston where he began his accounting career at Arthur Andersen & Co. Soon after their marriage, Pete and Sharron purchased their lifelong home in which both of their daughters, Lesa and Laura were born and raised. It was during this phase of his life that Pete spent 6 years serving his country in the Air National Guard of Texas. After his time at Arthur Andersen & Co, Pete moved on to work as vice president and treasurer at the international real estate firm, Gerald D. Hines Interests LTD. As he entered into the retirement phase of his life, Pete, not one to sit still for long, began his own consulting and factoring business.
Pete enjoyed spending time with his family while relaxing at the family’s beach house or country home. He loved cheering on his beloved Baylor Bears and enjoyed many years in the Astrodome rooting for the Oilers. Fishing, boating, bird-watching, wood-chopping, and tractor-driving were some of his favorite outdoor activities. An avid gardener, Pete loved growing plants and trees from seeds. He had a keen interest in unique cacti and cultivated hundreds of unusual succulents during his lifetime.
Pete is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Sharron Geldmeier, sister Betty Norman and husband Charles Norman, sister Davida Geldmeier, and his parents, William and Enid Geldmeier. Pete is survived by his daughter Lesa (Geldmeier) DuCharme and husband David DuCharme and grandchildren Coleman, Willy, and Ella DuCharme of Houston, Texas; daughter Laura Geldmeier and granddaughters Caroline and Sarah Anderson of Flower Mound, Texas; and his nephew, Jason Norman, and family from Beaumont, Texas.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston, TX, followed by a burial service on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Riesel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Pete to The William Geldmeier, Jr. Accounting Scholarship Fund at Baylor University.
