Bill was born in Russellville, Alabama to Charlie Mac Currie and Minnie Stanley in1926. His formative years were spent growing up in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he met his future wife, Mary. After serving the United States Navy, he graduated from Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), and after advanced studies at Tulane worked for Texaco in Bellaire, Texas for over 30 years pioneering the use of seismic interpretation and computers to explore for Oil & Gas, and held several patents. Bill was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, the Lyceum Life Alumni Association at Ole Miss, and Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and mainly with his wife traveling. Bill & Mary pursued various construction projects in Washington County, Texas as well as Black Mountain, North Carolina. Bill was an avid golfer and chess player. He was skilled at woodworking and cherished his books. He was most proud of the fact that all his children and grandchildren were gainfully employed in their respective professions.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife Mary Vaughn Shelton Currie and daughter Ann Shelton Currie.
Surviving family members include children Charles Currie (Sue), Mary Currie Barber (Jim) and Michael Currie (Lea), as well as grandchildren Michael Barber (Lauren), Betsy Barber, McLeod Barber, Jennifer Currie and Stephanie Currie Ahmed (Kareem).
Remembrance Services will be held at a future date in Houston, Texas.
