A lifelong Houstonian, Bill attended Lee High School, and graduated from Rice University. He received a law degree from The University of Texas and went into private practice with Butler Binion and later at Exxon for several years.
Bill was one of Houston’s early championship level croquet players; first with the Houston Mallet Club and later the Houston Croquet Association. Bill was instrumental in garnering support to build the croquet courts at Houston’s Memorial Park.
He is survived by his brother, Tom Blanton of San Antonio; his sister, Jane Sims of Michigan; and numerous first cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Judge William Neal Blanton Jr., and Elizabeth Putnam Blanton.
The family would like to acknowledge Pauline Elder for her compassionate loving care for Bill in the last year of his life. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.
The family gathered for a private interment service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
