Wilda Wilson “Widdie” Baker was born in Eunice, Louisiana on Friday, November 4, 1932 to Norborne Wilson and Wilda (Roberts) Wilson. She went home to the Lord early Sunday morning, March 6, 2016, of natural causes in Houston, Texas. She was 83.
Widdie met and married her loving husband of 61 years, Laurence Baker, at a singles Sunday school class held at Bossier City Methodist Church. Widdie's career spanned a lifetime from the oil patch to 14 years with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center before she retired.
Widdie was a devout Christian at Westminster United Methodist Church in Houston. Her love of church and family were the cornerstones of her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Widdie is survived by her sister, Norma Rodgers; her devoted husband, Laurence "Larry" Baker; and her loving children, Jon Baker, Wilda Marguerite Smith, Patricia Baker and Laura Ermis; her four grandsons, Christopher, Thomas, Jacob, Michael and her great granddaughter, Elliot. She also will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Family and friends gathered to share memories during a visitation at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell in Houston, where a service celebrating this wonderful woman’s life began at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend C.J. Taylor officiating. Immediately following the service all were invited for fellowship and remembrances in the Waltrip Reception Room.
