Jim Kaper, aged 78, passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2024. His passing was as he would have wished — quick, at home, and with no medical intervention.
Born on March 9, 1946, in Galveston, TX, Jim was raised alongside his sister, Karen, in La Marque, Texas. After graduating from La Marque High School, Jim became the first in his family to attend college, pursuing his studies at the University of Texas. It was there that he met Lisette, his beloved wife, whom he married in 1968. Together they shared a beautiful life marked by many moves and world travels.
Shortly after their marriage Jim was drafted into the US Navy. As newlyweds Lisette followed his ship through the Mediterranean, marking the beginning of their first adventures outside of the country. Upon completion of his service, Jim embarked on a long and successful career in oil and gas, and he retired from BP in 2008.
Jim was a fiercely dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his warmth and kindness, always available to help in any way. His friends and family will remember him for his enveloping hugs, his love of a good Jimmy Buffett or Rolling Stones tune, love of the ocean and, most of all, his enjoyment of scotch, a cigarette, and a good conversation.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lisette; his children, Kristin and Ashley; his grandchildren, Crosby and Teagan; and his sister, Karen. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service; however, donations to the Houston Food Bank in his honor are welcome. https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/InMemory/JimKaper
