Walter Flynn Schoellmann, age 68, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born on November 3, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio to Walter R and Essie D (Flynn) Schoellmann. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by wife Linda Lubbers Schoellmann, sons Walt (Julie) Schoellmann and Benjamin (Kristen) Schoellmann, and former wife Connie Boyer. After a 10 month battle with pancreatic cancer, he died peacefully at home Saturday evening surrounded by his family.
Walter earned his undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his graduate degree from The College of William and Mary. He was a Physicist by education and a Computer Scientist by trade. Walter was an entrepreneur at heart, having started multiple computer technology firms over the course of his career. Most recently he worked for Hewlett Packard and retired in December 2016 to focus on his cancer treatment.
Throughout his life, Walter maintained a passion for learning, having studied a multitude of disciplines including Religion, Philosophy, Psychology, Business, and Astrology. He was a natural born leader and he mentored countless individuals on any and every aspect of life. He was a generous man and gave freely of himself to family, friends, and colleagues. Walter cared more about experiences than possessions. He was a gracious host who shared his love of food, wine and spirits, combined with memorable conversations. He will truly be missed.
Memorial services for Walter will be held in Houston, TX on Thursday, October 12, at 3:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer and in Covington, KY on Monday, October 16, at 11:00 am at the Drees Pavilion in Devou Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Moon Shot Program.
