He is survived by his wife Barbara Eidson Bounds, son Andrew Bounds and wife Betty, daughter Vicki Bounds Kalina and husband Robert, son Mark Bounds and wife Melody, his brother, Norris Ray Bounds and wife Opal Jo, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years Miriam Gwendoline Farr, sister Naomi Gaubatz and husband Albert, brother Norman Bounds and wife Marcella, and sister-in-law Ruth Bounds.
Walter lived near Anderson, Texas as a child and moved to Huntsville, Texas for high school. He attended Sam Houston State University until he was drafted into the US Army for World War II. After basic training, he was assigned to the Quartermaster Corps and stationed in London, England and later in Paris, France – quite a change for a farm boy from Texas! He met his future wife, Miriam Gwendoline Farr of London, and was married in the Church of England. Upon his discharge from the service they moved to Washington, DC where Walter worked at the Pentagon as a civilian contractor. Walter and Gwen relocated to Houston, Texas in the early 50’s to be closer to his family.
Walter used his experience in the service to become a purchasing manager for Hydrocarbon Construction Company which later became Jacobs Engineering. He worked there until his retirement in 1986.
Walter was an active member of Saint Albans Episcopal Church of Houston and was a founding member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church of Spring.
Visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway on Wednesday, August 31, 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 2322 Spring Cypress Road on Thursday, September 1, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Abbott officiating. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Comforter Episcopal Church.
