He is survived by his devoted wife Kathy, his daughter Sandra (and husband Bob) Judge, and his grandson Griffin (and wife Kelly) Judge.
Walt grew up in West University, developing a love for the outdoors. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1955, and went on to attend his beloved University of Texas, working his way through school and graduating in 1960 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked for Lyondell/Sinclair/ARCO Chemical as a pipeline engineer for many years before founding his own company, Douglass Engineering Services, which he owned and ran successfully until his retirement.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and most of all, sailor. Known to his friends and family as Walt the Salt, he loved the water - whether it was racing sailboats on Lake Houston, sailing bigger boats in the Bahamas, or running the RC sailing club from his house on Lake Houston. He also loved flying model RC airplanes, and passed his love of aviation down to his grandson Griffin.
The family will have a private funeral service, followed by interment at Brookside Memorial Park in Humble, TX.
