Virginia was born on January 12, 1916, in Houston, Texas, and was the only child of William H. and Florence Brooke Rohrer. She grew up in the Heights area of Houston and was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School and Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. She served as President of the Red Coats while at Reagan High School and was recently named as one of the oldest living Red Coats. After graduating, Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Reginald G. Young, a Reagan and Rice University graduate. They remained happily married and sweethearts until his death in 1985. She was an HISD school teacher for forty plus years and after her retirement, Virginia continued as a substitute teacher until the age of 85.
Virginia is survived by her 2 children, Virginia “Ginny” Rohrer Roberts, of Montgomery, TX, and William Arrell Young, of Spring, TX & his wife Annette; grandchildren, Karen Atkinson & spouse Doyle, David C. Young (Dec.) & spouse Michelle, James “Jim” R. Young & spouse Amy, Jennifer Young Jackson & spouse Drew, Michael “Mike” Arrell Young & spouse Barbara, and Melissa Young Conner & spouse Chris; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Q. Atkinson, Ann Katherine Jackson, Jennings Young, Amber Young, Johnathan Young, Daniel Young, Austin Young, Abby Young, Alyssa Young, Nikki Conner, Kaci Conner, McKenna Conner, and Caden Conner; her special friend, Carmel Dann. She is preceded in death by her husband, Reginald G. Young; son, Reginald “Buddy” G. Young; grandson, David Charles Young.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
