Tyler went to be with our Lord on June 28, 2014 at the young age of 23. Tyler leaves behind his heartbroken family and friends, including his parents, Greg and Lisa Humphreys, his older brother Brandon and his Grandmother, Peggy LaPlant (Georgetown, TX). Tyler also leaves many uncles, aunts and cousins and many friends including his sweet girlfriend, Allison L. Comer in Raleigh, NC. We will all miss Tyler dearly.
Tyler was born in Houston on November 30, 1990, attended Fiest Elementary, Labay Middle School and graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 2009. Tyler always made his parents, Greg and Lisa so happy and proud. He met some of his life-long friends during his time in the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts, Troup 202. He loved camping, fishing, swimming and anything he could do outdoors with his fellow scouts, family and friends. Tyler loved his music and enjoyed keeping up with all of the latest technology in computers and entertainment.
Tyler liked playing soccer as a little boy, football in middle school and loved to go to air shows almost every year it came to town. Tyler was a parent’s perfect child. He was always smiling and so very cheerful. He made his parents so proud and happy throughout his entire life. Tyler handled his responsibilities seriously and was always thoughtful, courteous and respectful towards all that he met. Tyler worked hard to succeed in his school work, to achieve his goals in high school and was preparing himself to take advantage of all the opportunities that the future would bring.
Tyler was a disciplined student. After joining his school’s JROTC program, he developed his passion for the US Military. Tyler so much wanted to be a part of our Military that by the end of his senior year he chose to delay attending college and immediately enlist in the US Armed Forces.
Sergeant Tyler Humphreys enlisted in the United States Army in July of 2009 and attended One Station Unit Training (Infantry) at Fort Benning, GA. Throughout his career Sergeant Humphreys underwent training with the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 1st Special Warfare Training Group and the 82nd Airborne Division. Sergeant Humphreys completed the Basic Airborne Course, Special Forces Qualification Orientation Course, Warrior Leader Course and the Defense Language Institute instructional course where he gained fluency in Dari.
Sergeant Humphreys served in a variety of positions from Rifleman to Team Leader as a Paratrooper with the elite 82nd Airborne Division. SGT Humphreys’ deployed twice with the 82nd Airborne Division, once on a humanitarian mission to Port Au Prince, Haiti and once as a combat soldier in support of Operation New Dawn in Iraq. During his time at Ft. Bragg, NC, Sergeant Humphreys participated in multiple Team, Squad and Platoon level live fire exercises as well as 23 Airborne operations. Sergeant Humphreys was an exceptional leader who was loved deeply by his men and trusted immeasurably by his superiors.
