Truman "Pete" Alton Smith, of Nacogdoches Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, the 11th of July 2014, surrounded by his family at home. He was born fifth of six children on the 4th of June 1933 in Midland Texas son of William Percy Smith and Gladys Mays Smith. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy Frances Williams Smith, mother-n-law Ima Jean Beard Williams, five children: Connie Lynn Smith, Pete Dee Smith wife Lisa Smith, Wayne Austin Smith wife Ruth Smith, Timothy Alton Smith, Trudi Jean Smith Boese husband Marc Boese. And eight grandchildren: Brandon Miles, Mariah Kilian Smith, Sarah Smith, William Smith, Quintin Smith, Chloe Smith, Amélie Boese, Levi Boese
Truman Smith grew up in Houston Texas going to school and working as a paperboy for the Chronicle. He enlisted in the United State Marine Corps in 1952 and was awarded the National Defense Service medal and medal of good conduct. He was honorably discharged in 1956 with Rank of Sgt. Mr. Smith came back to Houston and worked for NASA as a contractor with Singer and Rockwell retiring after 32 years of service.
Pete was most happy doing things with members of his family. His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews remember him as being a hero in their lives and fun to be with. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and collecting coins. Pete was also an avid card player, playing in Texas Hold´em tournaments across the nation. He had an upbeat personality and brought a smile and wisdom to those around him. To those that knew him he will always be one of the greatest inspirations that impacted their lives, who shared with us his love and guidance that will be seen in generations of his loved ones, you will be greatly missed by all.
The memorial service is to be celebrated at 11:45am on Wednesday, the 16th of July, at American Heritage Funeral Home 10710 Veterans memorial Dr. Houston TX.
