Thomas "Tommy" Marvin Thompson passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on May 26 after 89 wonderful years of life. Tommy was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 7, 1928 to the parents of Marvin Buster Thompson and Margaret Rice Thompson. He grew up and attended the University of Virginia and earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Geoscience. He took a job with Texaco as an exploration geologist in Houston. A year later, he returned to Norfolk and wed his sweetheart, Anna Mae Whillock. They were married for 33 years and raised two sons, Tom and Peter in Houston. He was a member of the Houston Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologist for over 50 years.
He was a simple man, a proven oil finder and a loving father and grandfather. Tommy was always willing to lend an ear, a dollar or sound advice to anyone in need. Small in stature, he had a heart as big as all outdoors.
Smart, compassionate, witty, generous and kind were some of his most enduring traits, but he will also be remembered fondly for his remarkable penmanship and meticulous data recording......from daily temperatures and rainfall amounts, to natural gas prices, to his daily pecan harvest and his daily blood pressure for the last 30 years.
He is predeceased by his sister, Tess Hazlewood, of Nags Head, North Carolina.
He is survived by his sister, Carol York of New Jersey and his two sons, Tom and his wife, Kathy Thompson of Spring and Peter and his wife, Kim Thompson of Tomball. A special mention of love and thanks go to his best hand holding friend and a true angel for the last 25 years, Doris Mittag. She was a true blessing in his life. Grandchildren include Ryan and Jake Thompson, Jessica and Jaclynn Thompson and several nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079 on Friday, June 1st, at 10:00am. www.memorialoaksfunerals.com
