On February 28, 1970, a baby girl was born to Ethel Lee Wilson of Keithville, Louisiana and the Late Marcus A. Stephens of Houston, Texas. This baby girl wore the name of Tia Umekia Shantey Wilson for 52 years.
Although Tia was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, she grew up and was educated in Houston, Texas. Tia was a scholar of the North Forest Independent School District. She was a member of the 1988 graduating class, from M.B. Smiley. Tia was a people person who never met a stranger and any place she went she knew everyone and they knew her. Her livelihood was in home healthcare. At an early age, she was baptized at Riverwood Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor A.M. Johnson.
Later in life she united with Heart of Faith Church located at 12275 Homestead Road, Houston, Texas 77050 under the directions of bishop, John Bains. There she remained until her demise.
Tia leaves to cherish her memories one beloved daughter, Destinee Green, her loving mother, Ethel Cooper, stepfather, Sammie Cooper, two (2) sisters Eciana Gordon and Marcell A. Stephens, all of Houston, Texas. Three (3) grandchildren, with grandbaby number four, Naijee Ray Cooper, due any day, all of Houston, Texas. Two (2) aunts: Ruby Nell Harris and Waverly Richmond, both of Houston, Texas. Two great aunts, Eddie Lee McCall, of Houston, Texas, and Bessie Mae Allen of Four Forks, Louisiana. Four (4) great grand aunts: Mary Thomas of Houston, Texas and Willie Mae Hall of Shreveport, Louisiana, Bobbie Wilson, of Texas City, Texas, and Helen Perkins of Texas City, Texas. Three (3) uncles: Rev. Talbert L. Wilson (Linda) James Calvin Wilson, both of Houston, Texas., and Major George Wilson III, (Tasha) of Keithville, Louisiana, and Larry Stephens (Cynthia) of Alexandria, Louisiana. Three nieces Italy Jones-Braxton (Darrell), Autumn Jones and Maleah Brimzy all of Houston, Texas. Two (2) great-nieces Saige and Zyiah of Houston, Texas. One nephew Steven Gordwin (Jerica).
