The life book of Thomas Eugene Powell was opened when he was born on September 1, 1951 to Alma and Roger Powell in Houston, Texas. “Danny”, as we called him, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Rose Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Campbell. Later, he joined Christian Hope Baptist Church, un der the leadership of Rev. Herbert Stroman. Danny loved history and was the historian in the family. Although he had his share of troubles and he traveled through some low valleys, and the mountains seemed a little hard to climb, he held onto God through it all. Danny spent eight years of his life serving his country in the United States Army. When his health began to fail, he joined Gloryland Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Bennit Hayes. After moving to Oasis Independent Living Home, he was determined to stay close to God and he changed his membership to Galilee Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Byron Wyatt. He loved to praise and worship God, and God, in his infinite wisdom and divine power, had sent his son, Jesus, who sacrificed his life so that we all could have the right to the Tree of Life. He knew that Danny was worth saving, so he came and changed his life. On Sunday, September 11, 2016, God said, “My son, I’ve done a good work in you. You fought a good fight, you’ve finished the course, and you’ve kept the faith and it’s time to come home.” Danny took the Master’s hand and traveled to that grand new land. God knew that Danny was worth keeping, so he had cleaned him up inside, and now, Danny is free to live with Jesus Christ forever. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Alma Gilford; stepfather, Wilbert Gilford; his father, Roger Powell; and a sister, Jacqueline Harper. He leaves, to cherish his memory: 4 sisters: Janice McCoy (Richard), Karen Carrothers (José), Carolyn Mayes (Robert), and Eleania Rush (Fred); 5 brothers: Sam Price, Jr., Paul Powell, Byron Powell (Brenda), Craig Powell, and Billy Ray Cochran (Dinah); 3 step-children, whom he loved; a host of nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Danny dearly; and cousins. He also leaves a loving companion and special friend, Marion Elder.
