Sylvia was a woman of faith and leaned on God in all situations. She loved her family, and the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a lively woman, who never met a stranger. Her hobbies included watching her favorite show; My 600 Pound Life, attending family events, and gambling, like scratching lottery tickets and playing slots. When she won, she never hesitated to share her winnings. You could count on Sylvia to help with any situation, whether it was blessing a house, saying a prayer, or lending a helping hand. Even though she wasn’t a chef, she would go out of her way to feed everyone she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents Prisca Acuna & Andres Mendez; sisters Maria De La Luz Rojas, Laura M. Piaz; brothers, Andres Mendez, Alfredo Mendez, Ernesto Mendez, Victor Mondragon, and Miguel Mondragon.
She is survived by her husband of 53 Years, Arturo Rodriguez; daughters, Elia Torres, Maria Alicia Carlos and husband, Raul Carlos; grandchildren, Jasmine Carlos, Sophia Carlos, Amanda Vega and Carlos Vega and their children Alana, Mia, & CJ, Fausto Torres and Roxxann Ramon and their children Juan, Emma & Faustoleen, Norma Jean Torres and Carlos Velasquez and their children Bella, Carlos, Mya, Michael, B & Ruby, Isaac Torres and Jocelin Cadena and their children Aaliyah, Isabella, & Jeremiah, Olivia Carlos and Ignacio Andrade and their children Melanie, Kayla, Penelope, & Gianna, and her brothers, Joe Mendez, and Eddie Mondragon.
To the world she was Sylvia or Aunt Silver, but to her family she was Mom.
A visitation for Sylvia will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. The Funeral service will occur Monday, May 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by the Committal service at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
